The Central Bank of Guinea has introduced a unified mobile payment interoperability network to allow secure, immediate cross bank transactions.
The Central Bank of Guinea has officially inaugurated NimbaPay, a national instant payment system designed to facilitate secure, real time mobile money transactions across competing banking networks and telecommunications providers.
Prior to NimbaPay, transferring money between different banks or telecom networks was slow, expensive, and required complex manual clearances. The new system establishes a unified, secure interoperability clearinghouse, allowing instant, low cost transfers between bank accounts and mobile money platforms nationwide.
Driving Micro Commerce and Merchant Interoperability
By reducing transfer fees and clearing delays, the government expects NimbaPay to accelerate micro commerce, enhance cash flow for small merchants, and drive formal financial participation across the country. Market traders can now receive instant payments from customers utilizing different operators, eliminating the need to maintain multiple SIM cards or physical cash floats.
The system is anchored on robust central clearing architectures, ensuring that every transaction is immediately settled and auditable. Security analysts have praised Guinea's approach, noting that a unified, secure interoperability matrix is the safest path to protecting retail financial ecosystems against transaction interception and digital payment fraud.
